The short answer
Pick the Hiccapop wedge if you want to choose between a softer and a firmer side, and want foam the maker says you can hand wash. Pick the Boppy wedge if you want one firm surface in a cotton jersey cover and can live with a spot-clean-only core.
- Hiccapop: two sides, velboa cover, 15 x 13.25 x 4.5 in.
- Boppy: firm foam, jersey cover, size not listed.
- Decider: feel, fabric and spills.
What is the difference between the Hiccapop and Boppy wedges?
Both are small foam wedges you tuck under your bump, behind your back or between your knees. Hiccapop has a soft memory foam side and a firmer side; Boppy describes one firm foam wedge. The covers and the cleaning rules are different too.

Do you need a soft side and a firm side?
You need two sides only if you are not sure what you like yet, or you want different feels in different spots, like soft at your back and firmer under your bump. If you already know you like firm, one firm side is simpler.
Mattress Clarity's tester liked the softer side against her back, and found the wedge did slip out at some points in the night. A small wedge on its own is easy to knock loose when you move.
"there were so many pillows with too silky a fabric making it slip around and loose support"Amazon review of a different pregnancy pillow
A wedge's feel matters less than whether it is still there at 3 a.m.
What do you do when the foam core gets dirty?
This is the biggest practical difference. Hiccapop's FAQ says its foam can be hand washed. Boppy says its foam is spot clean only. Mattress Clarity's review said the whole Hiccapop could not be washed, so read the care label on the one you get.

Robin was 20 weeks with her second, and her two-year-old had decided the wedge on the couch was a table. Apple juice, straight through the cover. Robin unzipped it, looked at the sticky foam, and realized she had no idea whether she was allowed to put it under a tap. She ended up blotting it with a towel and sleeping without it that night.
- Cover off first. Both covers come off and machine wash. Boppy says delicate, mild detergent, tumble dry low.
- Hiccapop core: sink, regular detergent, press the water through, do not twist, squeeze out and air dry. Foam can take a long time to dry fully.
- Boppy core: spot clean with a damp cloth and let it dry completely before the cover goes back on.
- Before it happens: a thin towel over the wedge on the couch saves a lot of blotting.
What about the swelling and chemical claims?
Treat them as marketing, not evidence. Hiccapop's page says its wedge can help with swelling and nerve pain, and that its foam is free of harmful chemicals. We found no independent testing for the swelling or nerve claims.
A CertiPUR-US label means the foam was tested against that program's list. It is useful information. It is not a blanket promise about everything in the product. If swelling, numbness or nerve pain is bothering you, mention it to your midwife or OB-GYN rather than choosing a pillow for it.
Hiccapop or Boppy wedge: which should you buy?
Buy the Hiccapop if you want two feels in one wedge, a plush cover and a core you can wash by hand. Buy the Boppy if you want firm, a cotton jersey cover, and you will keep the wedge somewhere spill-free.
- Not sure soft or firm: Hiccapop.
- Run hot and dislike plush fabric: Boppy jersey. Hiccapop says its vent holes help airflow; we have not tested either for heat.
- Toddler, pets or couch use: Hiccapop, for the washable core.
- Need both bump and back held at night: one wedge of either kind covers one spot.
If one wedge is not enough, our guide to pregnancy wedges vs. body pillows explains when to go bigger.
For Robin, the answer was two pieces of support that stayed together, one at her bump and one at her back, kept in the bedroom away from juice. A week later her toddler climbed into bed on Saturday morning, curled up against the bump, and Robin got to lie there for once instead of jumping up to rescue a pillow.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Hiccapop pregnancy wedge washable?
The cover is machine washable and dryable. Hiccapop's FAQ says the foam can be hand washed in a sink without twisting, then squeezed out and air dried. Check the label on yours, since one review said the whole pillow could not be washed.
Can you wash the Boppy pregnancy wedge?
The jersey slipcover machine washes on delicate and tumble dries low. Boppy says the foam cushion is spot clean only and must dry completely before the cover goes back on.
Which wedge is firmer, Hiccapop or Boppy?
Boppy describes its wedge as firm foam. Hiccapop has one soft memory foam side and one firmer side, so you choose by flipping it.
How big is the Hiccapop pregnancy wedge?
Hiccapop lists 13.25 x 15 x 4.5 inches, and Mattress Clarity measured about 10 oz. Boppy's page did not list the size of its wedge.
Can one wedge support both my bump and my back?
Not at the same time. A single wedge covers one spot, so you either move it or add a second support.
If one wedge covers only half the problem
Relvay does not make the Hiccapop or Boppy wedge, and either one costs far less than our set. The Relvay 3-Piece is for people who want two wedges working at once: two crescent wedges, each about 17 x 13 in and about 4 in thick at the outer edge per our supplier, joined by a flat strap under you, with a small oval cushion on the strap. One sits at the bump, one at the back.
Two wedges for bump and back, joined by a flat strap, about as wide as your torso. Keep a regular pillow between your knees. $79.99, 90-day returns.
Probably not for you if
- You only need one small wedge, for one spot.
- You want a pillow mostly for the couch or travel.
- Your budget is around $20 to $25.
Worth a look if
- You need bump and back held together at night.
- A loose wedge keeps slipping away from you.
- You want 90 days to try it, and you will keep a regular pillow between your knees.
