The short answer

The PharMeDoc C-shape is one curved piece that supports one side of you. The U-shape supports front and back, and some versions have a side that zips off. Size, cover and care differ by listing.

  • C: tested at 57 x 30 x 7 in, fill not adjustable.
  • U: one cooling listing gives 53 x 31 x 7 in.
  • Rule: a claim belongs to the listing that made it.

Why do PharMeDoc reviews contradict each other?

Because the brand sells more than one full-body pillow, and reviews, listings and retailers often describe different versions under very similar names.

11:20 p.m.

I was 27 weeks, lying on my left side with a regular pillow jammed under my bump, reading reviews on my phone so the light would not wake Theo. One reviewer said the PharMeDoc was "not adjustable" at all. The listing I had open said "detachable" right in the title.

I almost gave up on the brand that night. Then I scrolled up and saw it. The review was about the C. My listing was a U, with a cooling cover and a side that zips off. Two different pillows, one name, and I had nearly thrown out both.

Before you compare C with U, make sure each review is about the version you are reading.

Here is what each source said about the version it described. Keep the columns apart. A detail in one column is not proof for another.

Notice the two C rows. Same shape, same length, but the UK listing is about 8 inches wider. That may be a different measuring method or a different version. Either way, it is a reason to measure your own bed before you order.

What is the PharMeDoc C-shape like, according to its tester?

The tester found it affordable and able to replace several pillows, with a cover that is easy to wash. The fill is fixed, and the 7-inch depth felt too high for some.

Liked: about $39 at full price, a removable, machine-washable cover, use in pregnancy and after, and replacement covers sold separately.

Reservations: the listing called it adjustable, but the tester found no zipper or opening to add or remove fill. The inner pillow cannot go in the washing machine. Sizes and cover choices are limited, and the height may be too much for some sleepers.

A C wraps one side of you. When you want to face the other way, you either flip the pillow or move to the other side of it.

What changes with the PharMeDoc U-shape?

A U puts support in front of you and behind you at once, so you can turn inside it without moving the pillow. The cost is width, and on the cooling listing one side is built to come off.

The listing we read says the detachable side can be used on its own as a body pillow or zipped back on for extra back or bump support, and asks you to handle the zipper with care. The cover is polyester and nylon and sold as cool to the touch. We could not find an independent hands-on review of this exact version, so treat the cooling claim as the seller's description.

At 31 inches wide, this U is a little wider than one person's 30-inch half of a queen bed. Other PharMeDoc U listings advertise jersey or cotton covers instead. Those are different products with different care labels.

C or U: which PharMeDoc fits your nights?

Pick the C if you mostly stay on one side and want a smaller footprint. Pick the U if you switch sides often and have the bed width for it.

A C supports one side of you. A U supports both, and on one version a side zips off.
  • I turn over more than twice a night: lean U.
  • I share a full or queen bed: measure first, lean C.
  • I run hot: read the cover fabric, not the word cooling.
  • I want to tune the height: neither tested version proved it.

Kelsey ended up measuring her half of the bed with the box still unopened. The U was wider than her half and Theo was already on the edge. She stopped asking which brand was best and started asking which shape fit her half. That question had an answer.

Frequently asked questions

What size is the PharMeDoc C-shaped pregnancy pillow?

Mattress Clarity measured its tested C at 57 x 30 x 7 inches and about 6 pounds. A UK listing gives about 57 x 38 x 7 inches, so check the size on your exact listing.

Is the PharMeDoc pregnancy pillow adjustable?

The tested C-shape was not: its reviewer found no opening to add or remove fill, even though the listing said adjustable. Check your listing for a photo of an inner zipper.

Does the PharMeDoc U-shape come apart?

One U listing with a cooling cover says one side detaches and can be used on its own or zipped back on. Not every U listing says this.

Can you wash a PharMeDoc pregnancy pillow?

The covers zip off and are machine washable on the listings we read. The tested C's inner pillow should not go in the machine. Follow your own care label.

Is the C or U better for switching sides?

A U, because it has support on both sides. With a C, many people switch to the other side of the pillow instead of flipping it.

If neither shape fits your bed

We make a different kind of pillow, not a C or a U. The Relvay 3-Piece is two small wedges for bump and back joined by a strap under you. It does not hold your head or knees. If the U is too wide for your half and the C only covers one side, it is the option in between.

Relvay 3-Piece pregnancy pillow: two pink ribbed wedges joined by a flat strap, with a small oval cushion

Two wedges for bump and back, joined by a flat strap, about as wide as your torso. Keep a regular pillow between your knees. $79.99, 90-day returns.

Probably not for you if

  • You want one pillow from head to knees.
  • You like hugging a long pillow.
  • You have a king bed and room for a U.

Made for you if

  • You share a full or queen bed.
  • You need bump and back support at once.
  • You want 90 days to decide in your own bed.
