Relvay makes a pregnancy pillow. We also tell you below when you should not buy one.

The short answer

Some softening with use is normal. A flat spot that will not fluff back, an open seam or filling that has clumped or escaped is worth reporting. Measure and photograph it the same way each time before you contact the seller.

  • Normal: even softening that fluffs back.
  • Report: one dead spot, open seam, lost filling.
  • Evidence: dated photos with a ruler.

The week the bump section disappeared

Most pillows go flat first exactly where you put the most weight, which in pregnancy is usually under the bump or between the knees.

5:10 a.m.

I bought my pillow at 22 weeks. By 34 the bit under my bump felt like a folded blanket. I woke with my belly pulling forward and my back tight, and I kept punching the pillow in the dark as if that would bring it back.

I could not tell if I had worn it out or if it was faulty. I did not have a single photo of what it looked like on day one. That was the part that annoyed me most.

Going flat is not always a defect, and it is not always your fault. The difference shows up in the details.

What counts as normal wear?

Normal wear is even and recovers when you fluff the pillow. A problem is local, does not recover, or comes with a change you can see, like an open seam.

Fiberfill in particular tends to shift and clump over time, one maker of pregnancy pillows notes, leaving flat spots where support matters. How fast that happens depends on the pillow, so a fill type alone does not tell you whether yours is faulty or how long it should last.

What should you try before you call it flat?

Fluff it and redistribute the filling, following the care label. If it comes back, it was settled, not broken.

  1. Take the cover off if it is designed to come off, so you can see the insert.
  2. Fluff and knead it by hand, working filling back toward the flat area. One maker's care note says to fluff a clumped or flat pillow as you would any other pillow.
  3. Let it rest on a flat surface for an hour or two.
  4. Check the label before any washing or drying. Heat is not a fix unless the label allows it.
  5. Do not open the insert or add your own filling. That can end any claim with the seller.

How do you document a flat pregnancy pillow?

Measure the same spots, the same way, on dated photos. A seller can act on numbers and pictures much faster than on "it feels flat".

Three spots, one ruler, same table each week.
  1. Pick three spots: the flat area, a spot that still feels normal, and the matching spot on the other side if there is one.
  2. Lay the insert flat on a table, cover off, after fluffing.
  3. Stand a ruler next to each spot and photograph it at eye level, so the height is readable.
  4. Take one wide photo of the whole insert and one of the label.
  5. Repeat weekly, same table, same time of day.

The best time to photograph a new pillow is the day it arrives. The second best time is today.

How do you ask the seller about it?

Send the order number, your photos and the measurements in one message, and ask a plain question. Warranty and return rules differ, so the seller's written policy is what counts.

A message you can copy: "Order [number], delivered [date]. The [section] of the insert now measures [x] in, against [y] in for the rest, after fluffing. Photos attached, including the label. Is this expected for this model, and what are my options?"

Keep the pillow in use only if it still supports you. If it is flat enough to twist your back, put it aside and use regular pillows while you wait.

Faith sent her photos on a Tuesday. She had only two weeks of measurements, but the flat spot was clearly lower than the rest and a seam had started to open. The reply came with a clear answer instead of more questions. Next time, she said, the ruler photo happens on day one.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my pregnancy pillow going flat?

Filling settles and compresses under body weight, most of all where you rest the bump or knees. Fiberfill can also shift and clump over time. If fluffing brings it back, it is settling rather than a fault.

Can you fix a flat pregnancy pillow?

Often you can fluff and knead the filling back into place. Do not open the insert, add filling or use heat unless the maker's instructions say so.

How long should a pregnancy pillow last?

It depends on the pillow and how it is used, and makers do not use one standard. Check the seller's written warranty or return terms instead of guessing from the fill type.

Is a flat pregnancy pillow a defect?

Not always. One spot that stays flat after fluffing, an open seam or escaping filling is worth reporting with dated photos and measurements.

What should I photograph before contacting the seller?

The whole insert with the cover off, each measured spot next to a ruler, the label and any seam damage, all with the date noted.

If you are replacing a flat pillow

Relvay sells the 3-Piece, a set of two wedges and a strap. We cannot promise any filled pillow never softens, including ours. What we can give you is a starting number for your log: each wedge is about 4 inches thick at its outer edge, by our supplier's measurement, so you can photograph it with a ruler on day one.
