Relvay makes a pregnancy pillow. We also tell you below when you should not buy one.
The short answer
Read four lines before you order: when the return clock starts, what condition the pillow must be in, who pays return shipping, and how the refund is paid. Some sellers only take back unused pillows, so sleeping on it can end your return.
- Unused only: you cannot really test it.
- Sleep trial: using it is the point.
- Unclear: ask in writing before you open it.
Day 19, and the box would not close
Most pillow returns go wrong on the conditions, not on the pillow. You find out the rules only after you have already slept on it. This is what that feels like.
10:05 p.m.
I was 32 weeks, kneeling on the bedroom floor, trying to fold a pregnancy pillow back into a box that was half its size. It had come vacuum packed. Once it puffed up there was no way it was going back in.
I had slept on it for nineteen nights because I wanted to give it a fair try. It never stopped sliding off my back. When I finally opened the returns page, it said thirty days from the order date, unused, in original packaging. My nineteen nights had started eleven days after I ordered. Chris found me sitting there with the empty box on my lap, trying not to cry over a pillow.
- If you want to sleep on it for a week before you decide, and you are not sure that is allowed...
- If your pillow arrived squashed in plastic and the box is already in the recycling...
- If you are on day 20 of 30 and still cannot tell whether it works...
- If you have no idea who pays to ship a giant pillow back...
You did nothing wrong by trying it properly. The policy was written for a product you test by looking at it, not one you test by sleeping on it.

What most of us assume about returns
Most of us assume a return window means we can try the pillow for that long. Often it does not. Here is where Danielle's assumptions cost her.
- "Thirty days means thirty nights."Her clock started at order, not delivery. Shipping ate eleven days before the pillow was even on her bed.Check when the clock starts.
- "Returns means I can use it."The policy said unused, in original packaging. Her first night on it was, on paper, the end of her return.Check what condition counts.
- "I'll just send it back in the box."The box was built for a vacuum packed pillow. The expanded one needed a bigger box and more postage, which she paid.Check who pays and what packaging is required.
- "I'll get my money back."Some sellers refund to store credit after a set number of days, or keep a fee. She had not looked.Check how and when you are paid.

Why are pregnancy pillow returns so tricky?
Because you can only tell if a pregnancy pillow works by sleeping on it, and many return policies are written for things you do not use. Pillows are also bulky, often vacuum packed, and some sellers treat them as hygiene items.
Testing means usingOne night tells you little. You learn about turning, heat and flattening over a week or two.
Unused rulesSome sellers only accept new, unused items, sometimes unwashed and in original packaging.
Bulky shippingAn expanded pillow rarely fits its original box, and return postage on a big parcel adds up.

A return window tells you how long you have. The conditions tell you whether you can actually use that time to sleep on it.
Below is the four-line reading sheet Danielle wishes she had used. Two minutes per seller, before you check out. Then the terms she finally ordered under.
What do real pillow return policies actually say?
They vary a lot. Some take back only new, unused items, some add hygiene rules, and some charge you for return shipping on a change of mind. These are examples from published policies, read in October 2026.
| Seller type | What the policy says | What it means for testing |
|---|---|---|
| US online retailer (Overstock) | Most new and unused items, within 30 days of delivery, in new or unused condition with original materials. | Clock starts at delivery, but sleeping on it is use. |
| Australian supermarket (Woolworths) | Unused items in original packaging within 30 days; change-of-mind return shipping paid by the buyer. | No real trial, and you pay postage. |
| Canadian baby store (ActiveBaby) | Returns must be unused, unwashed, in original unopened packaging; some items are final sale for hygiene reasons. | Opening it can end the return. |
None of these are bad policies. They were simply not written for testing a pillow in your bed. A sleep trial is a different promise, and you have to look for it by name. Look for words like "sleep trial", "try it at home" or a set number of nights, and then read the conditions under it, because a trial can still have rules about packaging, washing or who pays the postage.
We explain how to read a policy, not your legal rights. Those depend on where you live and who you bought from.
How do you read a pregnancy pillow return policy?
Find four lines and write them down for each seller: the clock, the condition, the return trip and the refund. If you cannot find one, email and ask before you order.
| Line | What to look for | Red flag | Ask the seller |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. The clock | Days counted from delivery or receipt | Counted from order date | "Does the window start when I receive it?" |
| 2. The condition | Words like used, slept on, trial | Unused, unwashed, original packaging, final sale | "Can I return it after sleeping on it?" |
| 3. The return trip | Who pays postage, any box you can use | Original box required, buyer pays, restocking fee | "Can I use any box? What does return postage cost?" |
| 4. The refund | Original payment method, a stated number of days | Store credit only, partial refunds | "How and when is the refund paid?" |
Save the policy page as a PDF or screenshot on the day you order. Policies change, and the version you bought under is the one you want.
How much can you test a pillow before you lose the return?
It depends entirely on line 2. With a sleep trial, you can sleep on it for the whole window. With an unused-only policy, any real use may count, so the honest answer is very little.
- Unused-only policy: lie on it fully clothed on top of the bed for a few minutes, in its plastic if possible, and decide from that.
- Sleep trial: sleep on it every night, and set a reminder a week before the window closes.
- Either way: photograph the pillow and label on arrival, and keep the outer packaging until you decide.
- Do not wash it or remove tags until you are sure, unless the policy says that is fine.
- Order early enough that the window covers the weeks you actually need it.
Before you test anything, check that the pillow fits your bed and the spots you need held. Our buying checklist covers that part.
What changed when she ordered with the sheet?
She chose the terms first and the pillow second. That let her sleep on it without counting days.
Danielle filled in the four lines for three sellers on a Sunday afternoon. One failed on the clock. One failed on the condition. The third said she could sleep on it, gave her a window counted from the day it arrived, and said any sturdy box was fine for a return.
She ordered that one, a small two-wedge set. She slept on it without checking the calendar. By the second week she had stopped thinking about returns at all, because it was staying on her side of the bed and she was staying asleep. Chris noticed first. The empty box in the hall went out with the recycling.

Frequently asked questions
Can you return a pregnancy pillow after using it?
Only if the seller's policy allows used returns or offers a sleep trial. Many retailers accept only new, unused items in original packaging. Read the condition line before your first night.
When does a return window start?
It depends on the seller. Some count from the order date, others from delivery or receipt. A window counted from delivery gives you more real nights.
Who pays return shipping on a pregnancy pillow?
Often the buyer, for a change of mind. Sellers usually cover it only when the item arrived damaged or faulty. Check before you order, because a bulky pillow can be costly to send.
Do I need the original box to return a pillow?
Some sellers require original packaging, others accept any sturdy box. Vacuum packed pillows rarely fit back in their first box, so this line matters.
What is a sleep trial?
A return promise built for sleeping on the product. It lets you use the pillow at home for a set number of nights and still return it under stated conditions.
Where the Relvay 3-Piece pillow fits in
The Relvay 3-Piece is the two-wedge set Danielle ordered. Here are its terms on the same four-line sheet, including the line that costs you something.
1. The bump wedgeA crescent-shaped wedge that tucks under your bump, thin edge toward your belly button, so the weight is not pulling on your back.
2. The back wedgeThe same shape, snug against your lower back so it has something to rest against.
3. The strap and small cushionA flat strap runs under you and joins the two wedges, so they stay together instead of drifting apart. A small oval cushion sits on the strap between them. You can set the distance as the bump grows.
Each wedge is about 17 by 13 inches and about 4 inches thick at its outer edge, tapering thinner toward your body (supplier measurement). Opened out, the set is roughly as wide as your torso, so it stays on your half of the bed and you keep your normal head pillow. Soft ribbed pink fabric on top, white sides. It is small enough to pack for a trip.

What it does not do: it does not go between your knees. Keep a regular pillow there, the way the NHS suggests. That combination covers all three points without a giant pillow.
