Relvay makes a pregnancy pillow. We also tell you below when you should not buy one.
The short answer
Pause, do not force anything, and write down what the machine and the pillow are telling you. Note the error code, cycle and what was in the load, read the pillow's care tag, then contact the right support with those details before trying again.
- Machine: code, cycle, door status, water level.
- Pillow: which part, its tag, how wet.
- Do not: force the door, add spins, lift it alone.
10:15 p.m., and the machine went quiet
A wash that stops halfway with a heavy, filled item inside is common, and it usually has a boring cause. What matters is not making it worse while you find out.
Week 31, 10:15 p.m.
Kimberly had waited until the house was quiet to wash the pillow. Forty minutes in, the machine beeped three times and stopped. A code blinked on the display. The door stayed locked, and through the glass she could see the pillow, grey and swollen, sitting in a few inches of water.
"My first thought was to yank the door and get it out before it ruined," she said. "My second thought was that I had no idea what that code meant."
- If the machine stopped and the pillow is still in water.
- If you are tempted to pull the door or run another spin.
- If you do not know whether the problem is the machine or the pillow.
Slow is faster here. A few notes now save you a second ruined night.
What should you do first when the wash stops?
Press pause, leave the door alone and read the display. The code and the manual decide the next step, not how urgent it feels.
- Photograph the display with the code, and note the cycle and temperature you chose.
- Look through the glass or lid: roughly how much water is in the drum, and where the pillow sits.
- Find the machine manual or the maker's support page and look up that code. Samsung's help page, for example, tells you to check the door is closed and latched and to look for an error code on the panel.
- Follow only the steps the manual gives for that code. If it lists a draining step, do it exactly as written. If it does not, stop and contact the machine's support.
Do not: force a locked door, open panels, touch wiring, or start an extra spin to "finish the job". A waterlogged pillow can be heavy and lopsided in the drum. If it has to be lifted out, ask someone to help rather than heaving it alone.
Is it a machine problem or a pillow problem?
Often both, which is why you need two short messages instead of one long guess. The table sorts what you saw into who can actually answer it.
| What you saw | Likely branch | Who to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Error code, door locked, water not draining | Machine | Machine maker or a repair service |
| Stopped during spin, drum thumping | Load balance, maybe pillow too heavy for the drum | Machine manual first, then the pillow maker |
| Pillow tag says spot clean or hand wash | Pillow should not have been machine washed | Pillow maker |
| Filling visible, seam open, foam pieces in the drum | Pillow damaged | Pillow maker, and the machine maker before the next wash |
If the third row is you, you are in good company. Plenty of pregnancy pillow inserts are spot clean only. One maker, Leachco, lists its insert as do not machine wash. Our guide on whether a pillow fits your washing machine covers the check for next time.
What goes on your incident sheet?
Everything a support person would ask in the first two minutes. Fill it in once and paste it into both messages.

- Machine: brand, model number (usually inside the door or on the back), error code, cycle, temperature, spin setting.
- Time: when it started, when it stopped, how long the pillow has been sitting wet.
- Load: what was in the drum. Cover only, insert only, or both. Anything else with it.
- Pillow tag: photo of the care tag for each part that got wet, plus your order number.
- Water: water in the drum or not, and whether the insert feels wet all the way through or only on the surface.
- Damage you can see: open seams, filling outside the pillow, foam crumbs in the drum.
The next morning
Kimberly sent two messages before breakfast: the code and model to the machine maker, the tag photo and soak time to the pillow seller. "Writing it down made me feel less stupid," she said. "It was just a list of facts."
What should you do while you wait for an answer?
Once the pillow is out by the manual's normal steps, keep it somewhere it can lose water slowly and safely, and do not try to rescue it fast.
- Lay it flat on old towels in an airy room, away from heaters and direct heat.
- Do not wring, twist or stand on it to squeeze water out. That can tear the filling.
- No hot dryer, hairdryer or radiator until the maker says how the insert can be dried.
- Send your messages the same day. The US EPA advises drying water-damaged items within 24 to 48 hours to limit mold growth, so time matters for the answer, not for shortcuts.
If the maker says the insert cannot be saved, you have your answer in writing. If they give a drying method, follow theirs. Our guide to filling that bunched after washing helps if it comes out lumpy.
Frequently asked questions
My washing machine stopped with the pillow inside. Can I open the door?
Only by the steps your machine manual gives for that error code. Many machines keep the door locked while water is inside. Do not force it; contact the machine's support if the manual does not cover it.
Should I run another spin to get the water out of the pillow?
No. A soaked filled pillow can unbalance the drum and stop it again, and extra spinning can damage the filling. Ask the machine and pillow makers first.
Is my pregnancy pillow ruined if it got soaked?
Not always. It depends on the filling and the tag. Send the pillow maker your tag photo and how long it was wet, and ask whether and how the insert can be dried.
How do I dry a pillow that came out of a stopped wash?
Lay it flat on towels in an airy room without direct heat until the maker gives a drying method. Do not wring it or use high heat to speed it up.
Who pays if the machine or pillow is damaged?
That depends on each maker's warranty and your seller's policy. Keep the incident sheet, photos and both replies; they are what support teams ask for.
If washing day keeps going wrong
One large filled pillow is a lot to ask of a home washer. Relvay's 3-Piece is two smaller wedges and a strap. Its cover is listed as removable and washable. For the wedges, follow the tag on your set, the same rule as every pillow on this page.
Two wedges for bump and back, joined by a flat strap, about as wide as your torso. Keep a regular pillow between your knees. $79.99, 90-day returns.
Kimberly's story is a composite based on public posts from pregnant sleepers whose wash stopped with a pillow inside. Names and details are changed.
